In this painting our neighbour an organic farmer, who ploughs with very large Shire horses was a huge inspiration for this painting.

I painted it in early spring on a fine day, the leaf-buds were returning to the trees and the sky was a soft blue with billowy clouds on the horizon. I gave Eamon 19th century clothes instead of the modern jumper & jeans he wore on the day. The myriad of tack the horses wore was a challenge to paint.
