Aloft the Wind, Forever Free

€5.500

I did this large composition to honour the last remaining wild herd of Assateauque & Chincoteague horses left in the world. They roam freely on the Outer Banks of North Carolina. These wild horses originally came over in the 16th century on Spanish conquistador ships.

The shallow coast off Corolla and the unpredictable sandbars result in the area being known as the graveyard of the Atlantic, which caused many a shipwreck. It is believed that the horses survived swam ashore and adapted to their new home and have been happy there ever since.
